Building professional relationships can be an important networking tool and opportunity. Many people do not realize that these professional contacts can begin even during our high school years. There are many programs that can help facilitate building a professional network. As we continue moving towards goals in our career path, there are many networking opportunities we can take advantage of.
Consequently, one of our coworkers, Binh Vo, had an opportunity in high school and took it. Binh attended Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, TX and graduated in 2016. Lake Highlands partnered with various companies to offer a program called Professional Internship Program (PIP) in the fall of 2015. The curriculum allowed students to have a glimpse into their chosen professional careers. At the time, Binh had an idea of which career path he wanted to take, so he decided to give a civil engineering internship a shot.
Fortunately for us, his internship was here at RLG where he was able to connect with Stephen Schwind. Stephen is a Senior Associate in our Civil Department; he manages and coordinates designs and prepares plans and specifications for the development of municipal and commercial projects. By the end of his internship, Binh knew that RLG would be a great fit for him. At RLG, Binh experienced the camaraderie between employees, supportive atmosphere, and an environment that draws on the talents of hardworking individuals.
Binh tells us that this internship ultimately inspired him to pick his college major as civil engineering. Four years later, he graduated from Texas A&M University and reached back out to Stephen. We are excited that he decided to join us and continue his career path with RLG!
