RLG has amazing employees in its ranks: from industry influencers, travelers, marathon runners, animal lovers, and community leaders. The Employee Spotlight highlights the talented individuals who work here. Each week, we’ll be featuring an interview here on the blog and on our social accounts.
For this week’s Employee Spotlight, we spoke with Sara Parsons. Here at RLG, Sara is our Receptionist.
I was born and raised in a tiny town on the coast of Georgia, where everyone knows each other, and the beach was only 20 minutes away. About four years ago, my son and I made the leap of faith to move to the big city of Dallas, TX, bringing with us only our dog and what would fit in my car! Moving on our own with basically nothing and seeing how far we have come in only four years has been amazing! Since moving to Dallas, I became NASM certified as a personal trainer, got a home with my boyfriend in a cute and quiet neighborhood of Lake Highlands, and just recently completed a successful cycle of IVF, and am now in my second trimester! In my free time, I am in the kitchen creating new recipes, going on walks with my family, or taking trips back to Georgia to see me family and lay on the beach!
How long have you been at RLG?
I’ve been with RLG for just over one year!
How did you hear about RLG? Why did you want to work here?
I was originally hired through a recruiting service, but once I got here and saw the atmosphere and how welcoming everyone was, I knew this is where I wanted to be.
What is the most challenging project you've worked on during your time here so far?
During the COVID Shelter-in-Place order, I came in while the office was empty to help reorganize and clean out some old files… I felt a sense of accomplishment once it was completed.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned at RLG?
To be versatile! Do not get stuck in a routine that a change of pace becomes a difficult adjustment.
What’s your favorite thing about working in your Department here?
I get to interact with and help everyone in every department!
What's the first thing that you do when you start working every day?
The first thing I do is check my emails to prioritize my tasks for the morning.
What’s your workspace like? Minimalist? Homey? Neat?
That depends on the day! I try to keep my workspace neat, but sometimes it gets a little cluttered for an afternoon. I only keep the necessities close by, as well as a few pictures of my family.
Do you have a go-to sound or song that you listen to when you need to just start working?
No, I prefer to work in silence. Even at home when I’m cleaning, 90% of the time, I clean in silence. The other 10% of the time, I’m blasting 90’s R&B so loud that my neighbors can hear it.
If RLG announced a last-minute day off for tomorrow, what would you do with your suddenly free day?
SLEEP IN! Then, I’d probably go for a walk in our neighborhood, do a little Christmas shopping, and lay around watching true crime documentaries and TikTok.
What would you do if you weren’t working at RLG?
If I wasn’t working for RLG, I’d be running my gourmet cookie shop full time and/or getting back on track with fitness to work as a personal trainer.
