RLG has amazing employees in its ranks: from industry influencers, travelers, marathon runners, animal lovers, and community leaders. The Employee Spotlight highlights the talented individuals who work here. Each week, we’ll be featuring an interview here on the blog and on our social accounts.
For this week’s Employee Spotlight, we spoke with Casey Salo-Betz. Here at RLG, Casey is an Engineer on the Civil Team.
I have lived in the DFW area since 2001, but I will always say I am from the Pacific Northwest. I enjoy running outdoors, getting lost in a good book, playing a great video game, and being with my family. Recently my boyfriend and I adopted the two most adorable kittens. I am a big animal lover and because of that I have been a vegetarian for 6 years.
How long have you been at RLG? I have been at RLG since January 2020
How did you hear about RLG? Why did you want to work here? I first heard about RLG when I was a senior at UT Arlington. I spoke to a couple employees at the time and heard it was a great place to work. I decided I wanted to work here because of the vibe I got when I visited the office. The atmosphere is great, and the people are very friendly.
What is the most challenging project you've worked on during your time here so far? I started working at RLG shortly before Covid-19 showed up. So, I would say the most challenging thing for myself isn’t a specific project, it’s learning how to work from home. Luckily, I have a wonderful team that is very helpful.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned at RLG? The most important thing I have learned while working at RLG is to ask for help when you need it. Someone will always be there to help out.
What’s your favorite thing about working in your Department here? My favorite thing about the Civil Department is the people. Everyone is friendly and enjoys what they do. Having a good atmosphere like that makes each day a good day.
What's the first thing that you do when you start working every day? The first thing I do when I start work each day is put on my headphones, rock out, and then read my emails.
What’s your workspace like? Minimalist? Homey? Neat? My workspace is cozy with a little bit of organized chaos. I have every color highlighter and pen possible, notebooks, and my iPad. I like to sit with two comfy pillows, always have a water bottle, and snacks. It’s perfect to just zone into my work when I need to. Oh, and I can’t forget the most important thing of all, my headphones!
Do you have a go-to sound or song that you listen to when you need to just start working? My go-to sound is rock music. I like pretty much anything that gets my blood pumping and that I can rock out to!
If RLG announced a last-minute day off for tomorrow, what would you do with your suddenly free day? I would probably do something outside with my boyfriend. Either hiking, going to the park, or swimming.
What would you do if you weren’t working at RLG? If I wasn’t an engineer at RLG, I would want to work with animals. Maybe help out at a local shelter or adoption agency.
