RLG provided the Civil Engineering and Survey services for the White Rock Elementary School expansion.
Survey performed a topographic survey, a floodway easement abandonment and rededication, and an as-built survey in the floodplain for DWU Floodplain Management to ensure grades were installed per construction documents which were coordinated with the flood study.
This project involved two separate phases due to significant rework in the floodplain, which involved a long review time. The first phase consisted of three building additions, designing a new courtyard and front entry, routing storm sewer to pick up the courtyard and new roof drainage, creating access for the new library addition and ensuring grades worked with the future phase. The second phase involved redesigning the parking lot and fire lane to be raised 2' above the 100-year water surface elevation, and the building finished floor 3' higher per DWU Floodplain requirements. After consulting with the engineer preparing the flood study, it was determined that six rows of reinforced concrete pipe would be required to replace the existing RCP public storm line running through the site. This run of storm sewer conflicted with the walls of the raised parking lot, and we had to coordinate with the structural engineer at pier locations.
In addition, the new playgrounds required grading and sub-surface drainage, and the courtyards also required proper drainage. Lastly, water and sanitary sewer services and a new ONCOR transformer were coordinated with the MEP, and routing was provided as needed.
