Last week marked a significant milestone for RLG Consulting Engineers as Stuart A. Markussen, CEO, presented a framed 1920 drawing of Cedar Crest Country Club, now known as Cedar Crest Golf Club, to Ira Molayo, PGA, in a heartfelt gesture aimed at preserving the rich history of this iconic golf course in the City of Dallas.
This drawing, meticulously crafted in 1920 by the engineering firm Myers & Noyes, serves as a window into the past, showcasing the proposed course layout, existing contour lines, and tree clusters. Prepared at a typical engineering scale of one inch equals one hundred feet (1” =100’), it is a testament to the precision and foresight of its creators.
The story behind this drawing dates back to 1911 when Ernest Meyers and Edward Noyes established their engineering partnership following their pivotal roles as project construction managers of the Dallas/Oak Cliff Viaduct, now known as the Houston Street Viaduct. Thriving in post-war Dallas, their consulting partnership laid the groundwork for decades of engineering excellence until their retirement in 1953.
At this juncture, Raymond L. Goodson Jr., a civil engineering graduate of Southern Methodist University and a key employee, assumed leadership and renamed the business Raymond L. Goodson Jr. Consulting Engineers, now known as RLG Consulting Engineers. Under his guidance, the firm completed numerous projects, inheriting all files, drawings, and equipment from its predecessor. Many of these drawings, including the 1920 Cedar Crest Country Club rendering, encapsulate the firm's involvement in notable and landmark projects across Dallas and its surrounding counties.
In 1983, Raymond retired, passing ownership to a new generation of engineers, including his son David Goodson and John F. Stull, who served as President for 20 years. The firm celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2023 and continues to thrive under a third generation of leaders, offering civil engineering, structural engineering, and surveying services to clients nationwide.
Last week's presentation symbolized RLG Consulting Engineers' commitment to preserving the heritage of Cedar Crest Golf Club and its significance to the Dallas community. As the drawing finds its new home with Ira Molayo, PGA, it serves as a reminder of the firm's enduring legacy and its dedication to honoring the past while shaping the future.
In commemorating this momentous occasion, RLG Consulting Engineers reaffirms its role as a steward of history, ensuring that the stories embedded within these drawings continue to inspire and resonate for generations to come.
